![]() (In fact, the backporting instructions may be useful as a reference point for configuring completely unrelated software) However, these instructions may still be useful for installing later versions of libimobiledevice and other software. ![]() It has been some time since then, and that version of libimobiledevice may or may not work for more recent versions of iOS. * This document had its last major update in Feb 2012, for libimobiledevice 1.1.1-3 and iOS 5. open new shell window (may not be necessary).apt install ideviceinstaller python-imobiledevice libimobiledevice-utils libimobiledevice6 libplist3 python-plist ifuse usbmuxd libusbmuxd-tools Lsb_release -a: Debian GNU/Linux 9.5 (stretch) However, this document can help you get libimobiledevice working and talking to your iPhone. Though libimobiledevice enables much more functionality than that, such functionality is not covered in this document. * The author(s) of this document mostly just wanted to copy music between an iPhone and Debian computer. The library is in development since August 2007 with the goal to bring support for these devices to the Linux Desktop. It allows other software to easily access the device's filesystem, retrieve information about the device and its internals, backup/restore the device, manage SpringBoard icons, manage installed applications, retrieve addressbook/calendars/notes and bookmarks and (using libgpod) synchronize music and video to the device. Unlike other projects, it does not depend on using any existing proprietary libraries and does not require jailbreaking. libimobiledevice is a cross-platform software library that talks the protocols to support iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV devices. It would be great to debianize and integrate those instructions onto this page, or perhaps split this page into several pages dedicated to Debian and iPhone/iOS. * The Arch Linux Wiki has a great article on iPhone Tethering. For bluetooth tethering, libimobiledevice is not helpful, and thus neither is this document. * Tethering is not covered here however if you want to tether via USB, setting up libimobiledevice may be required, and thus some of these instructions may be useful for you. This page is for connecting an iPhone running Apple's iOS to a Debian computer. Appears to be a macOS problem with SMB shares. Disconnecting from the share (in Finder) would similarly hang. Before installing Automounter, at least one of the mounts (but generally not all 3) would randomly become unresponsive after some period of sleep it would still appear in Finder, but the folder would appear to be empty, and if an application tried to access it (Time Machine, iTunes, or Carbon Copy Cloner, depending on the share), the application would go into an unrecoverable hang (Mac would hang during attempted force quit and restart, requiring a hard reset). Running Mojave on my iMac, I use several SMB3 shares on my Synology NAS that need to stay mounted for periodic access, one is for Time Machine, one has my iTunes database, and one is used for backups (running Mojave on my iMac).
